Special-edition D-18E with Sophisticated Flair

This special-edition D-18E from Martin adds elegant aesthetic touches and modern electronics to the classic stage and studio staple acoustic. The D-18E 2020's rich and luxuriant sound derives from its mahogany back and sides, Sitka spruce top, and forward-shifted Sitka spruce X bracing, which allows for unimpeded resonance and hearty projection. The comfortable dreadnought body is adorned with an Old Style 18 multi-stripe rosette and covered in a gorgeous gloss finish. And, the High Performance Taper neck is finished in satin for smooth playability and capped with an East Indian Rosewood fingerboard styled with eye-catching abalone inlays. When its time to plug in, the D-16E 2020 is equipped with the LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic system, an advanced soundhole pickup with a proprietary noise-canceling technology indispensable for live performances.

The choice of session guitarists for decades

When it comes to recording flatpicked acoustic guitars, professional recording engineers tend to prefer instruments with mahogany backs and sides for tracking in thick arrangements. And the Martin D-18 — the granddaddy of mahogany dreadnoughts — has the uncanny ability to sit pretty in any mix, with a minimum of processing. Point your favorite small-diaphragm condenser mic at the 12th fret, and you’ve got a gorgeous-sounding acoustic guitar sound that practically mixes itself. It also sounds rich and full-bodied on its own. Whether solo or tracked, the Martin D-18E 2020 will do you proud.

Natural amplified sound from your acoustic

The LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Pickup will change the way you look at mic pickups. This feedback-busting, natural-sounding pickup is the result of over 30 years of effort. The Anthem is a well-designed microphone that picks up your guitar — clean, clear, and full of dynamics. While many guitar mics are prone to feedback or sound annoyingly boxy, the LR Baggs Anthem is like having your acoustic sound just "turned up," so it's full of detail, warmth, and personality — and feedback-free.

So how does it work? LR Baggs developed proprietary noise-canceling technology that captures the pure, natural sound of your acoustic guitar. The Tru-Mic system picks up the vibrations of your entire soundboard, so the Anthem is surprisingly free of placement issues. The control unit is extremely lightweight and features just the essentials: volume, mix, and phase. It nestles inside the soundhole for easy fingertip access. And because there are no control holes cut into the side of the guitar, the system is completely unobtrusive. With the mix control, you can blend between the augmented mic and the full-range pickup. There's also a multi-segment battery check to monitor battery life.

The CF Martin legacy

What hasn’t been said about the CF Martin company? Martin — a name virtually synonymous with the acoustic guitar — took root in the United States in 1833 with a little shop in lower Manhattan. Five years later, Christian Frederick Martin moved his business and family to the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, where Martin’s been located ever since. From the dreadnought body shape to the 14-fret neck, Martin innovations parallelled (and indeed, drove) the development of the acoustic guitar itself. When you play any Martin guitar, you’re holding a piece of music history. When you play a Martin D-18E 2020, you’ve got the real deal in your hands.
