Austin Atkinson is a 2018 graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Here he studied classical and jazz saxophone under Dr. James Bunte, Dr. Nathan Nabb, Craig Bailey, and Rick VanMatre. Native to Cincinnati, Austin teaches Saxophone to a private studio spanning Boone and Kenton counties in Kentucky and Hamilton and Clermont Counties in Ohio. These students - ranging from fifth grade to college level - regularly see distinguished performances at
OMEA/KMEA Solo & Ensemble and inclusion in the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble, the Cincinnati Youth Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Explosion ensembles, as well as local select and honor bands.

Austin’s performance experience covers the range of ensembles available to saxophone, including traditional wind ensembles and big bands, saxophone quartet and choir, small jazz and rock bands, along with new music ensembles using eclectic instrumentation. He has also
been a need-based performing member of the local Fillmore Wind Band since its inception, notable for performances at the Midwest Clinic and WindFest! at Cincinnati Music Hall.

In 2015 Austin became a member of the contemporary saxophone/musical quartet Shredtet based in Cincinnati, Ohio. This ensemble focuses on performing a wide range of genres in a wide range of settings, including standard and contemporary programs at Cincinnati Classical Revolution, the U.S. Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, and the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Biennial Convention hosted by UC CCM. In 2018 the group was selected to join the performing crew of Curveball Music Festival, programming and performing an array of classical saxophone quartet music combined with modern rock arrangements at Watkins Glen
International Speedway, New York. Since then, Shredtet recorded several world premiers written for their group in collaboration with modern American composers. The quartet is currently working on an album-long arranging project, slated to record in the fall of this year.
