The New Martin D41 acoustic guitar features a refreshed design for its Standard Series, combining vintage-inspired pre-war specs with modern playability enhancements. Key updates include Golden Era bracing and a redesigned neck, aiming for a vintage tone with improved comfort.
Key features
Enhanced tone and bracing
- Golden Era scalloped X-bracing: The D-41 now uses Sitka spruce Golden Era bracing, which is forward-shifted for a more resonant and responsive feel, similar to vintage models from the 1930s.
- Boasting projection and clarity: The bracing is specifically engineered to provide articulate highs, a powerful low-end, and a rich, resonant tone, suitable for various playing styles.
Improved neck and playability
- Modified Low Oval neck profile. The genuine mahogany neck is carved into a GE Modified Low Oval profile with a high-performance taper. This provides a fast and comfortable feel for different players.
- Refined fingerboard: The ebony fingerboard is now thinner, features comfortably beveled edges, and has a sleek vintage-style heel.
- Improved nut design: The nut is now angled, which enhances string pull and improves tuning stability.
- Bone nut and pins: The nut is made of bone and the bridge pins are bone with abalone dots, a notable upgrade from previous versions that had plastic pins.
Premium aesthetic details
- Luxurious inlay work: The D-41 is decorated with stunning abalone inlay around the top and a Style 45-like abalone rosette. The ebony fingerboard also features mother-of-pearl reduced hexagon inlays.
- Genuine Mahogany neck: Unlike many standard-issue dreadnoughts, the D-41 features a genuine mahogany neck.
- Vintage-style heel: The heel of the neck is sleeker and vintage-styled.
- Antique white binding: The body and fingerboard are bound with antique white binding.
- Gold open-gear tuners: The headstock is equipped with gold open-gear tuners.
- Inlaid headstock logo: The East Indian rosewood headplate is adorned with a Golden Era style block inlay Martin logo.
Construction and materials
- Body: Dreadnought (D-14 Fret) body shape with solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides.
- Construction: Dovetail neck joint for solid construction.
- Finish: Gloss finish on the body and a satin finish on the genuine mahogany neck.
- Accessories: A hardshell case is included with the guitar.
