Released within Reverb.com multi-builder 2023 Blackout Series promotion, the JHS Oil Can Delay is the first non-white pedal in the company’s 3 Series. It’s a digital delay voiced after the vintage and murky-sounding oil can delay, based on a short-lived technology that’s been rediscovered for its unique sonic character.
The idea of a delay inspired by the sound of the oil can circuit was conceived in a meeting between JHS owner Josh Scott and Wilco’s guitarist Nels Cine, who brought up the idea when the two met at Wilco’s 2022 Solid Sound Fest.
The controls are very simple: Mix, Speed and Feedback, with an added +/- toggle that switches between modulation intensities.

CONTROLS
- MIX: Controls the mix of echo and clean signal. Left is less, right is
- SPEED: Controls the length of the delay time from 100ms to 330ms. Left is shorter, right is longer.
- FEEDBACK: Controls the amount of feedback or repeats of the delay signal. Left is less, right is more.
- +/-: The toggle allows you to switch between modulation intensities. In the down position you have light movement and in the up position you have heavier movement. The modulation speed is associated with the delay time control (shorter is faster and longer is slower, reminiscent of the oil can warble in relation to the delay speed).
JACKS
- INPUT: 1/4" jack on the right side of the pedal.
- OUTPUT: 1/4" jack on the left side of the pedal.
- POWER: Requires 9V DC negative center power and consumes 65mA. Do not use more than 9V DC. You will void your warranty.
